After leaving school Tom was due to follow his father and go to catering college, but instead completed a course in Electrical Engineering.

After graduating he worked for several years in TV and refrigeration.

Not long after he got a job at the Albion Clothing factory repairing clothing machines.

By now, Tom's business had once again outgrown its premises, and he knew it was time to get a proper shop front.

Keen to stay in Newcastle, Tom soon spotted the current premises at South Promenade, which was previously a Supermarket and Butchery.

He was determined to own his own shop and build something for his family, so after purchasing the property, Ireland's Appliance Centre was born.

After years of growing the business into one of the most respected electrical retailers in the area, Tom's son, Thomas, joined the business at the age of 18.

After some initial training by his dad, Thomas went on to get full training from Whirlpool, Hoover and Hotpoint.

In 2017, Thomas became the shop's main engineer, overseeing the repair and servicing of all types of household and commercial electrical appliances.

In 2021, Oran joined the team to look after the retail shop. he loves dealing with the customers day to day, advising them on what appliance best serves their needs and making sure they get the best value for money.

Siobhan joined the team and became a valuable member in terms of social media and bringing Ireland's up to date with the modern world of communication.

She also keeps the boys in check and makes sure everyone has a coffee and a sweet treat.

Today, Ireland's Appliance Centre has a fully stocked showroom with all the latest appliances from only the best brands.

It runs two vans for deliveries, repairs and servicing, and still thrives as much now as it did back in the day on offering local people the best service possible, a great range of products and above all else, the best deals.
